The Prayer of a 3 year old
As a parent, I love listening to my little girl pray. You have to know my little princess to really understand how entertaining her prayers can be. Kamryn was born for the stage...she loves to make people laugh and truly enjoy life. Well, she has learned to carry this gift of entertainment into her prayer life.
Last night we were sitting down to eat and I asked Kamryn if she wanted to say "Amen" (how she refers to prayer), and she gladly said yes. So she began...imagine this from a 3 year old...
"Dear Jesus, thank you for our food. Thank you so much for this day and for mommy's hammock, ..." this goes on for a minute or so as she looked around the dinner table thanking God for the things she liked and then the greatest thing came out of her mouth...
"and thank you for the Foo Fighters' song. Amen."
Now at this point, I busted out in gut laughter. She loves the Foo Fighters' "Best of You." She walks around the house singing "Is someone getting the best, the best, the best of you?" at the top of her lungs. Don't get me wrong, she is exposed to a lot of music in our house. She has memorized the FC 2004 Christmas DVD. She knows almost every song on the Hillsong United "Look to You" cd. But the funny thing about the Foo Fighters is that she has only heard that song one time. They performed on Letterman a couple of months ago and she stayed up with me to watch them. As soon as they were done she walked down the hall to her room singing "Is someone getting the best, the best, the best of you?"
Her singing this one line reminds me to think of what/who I'm giving my best to. Who is getting my best? My job? My family? God?
